The second ePrix of Formula E played in Rome (Italy) on Sunday, April 10, provided a much more exciting scenario than the first round on Saturday.

Starting from his first pole position of the season, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Techeetah) was forced to downgrade in the face of a faster race pace from his pursuers. The Frenchman saved the furniture at the end of the race thanks to sharp attacks, finishing second.

The double champion of the electric discipline tried to take advantage of a late intervention by the safety car to carry out an offensive on the last lap, but Mitch Evans (Jaguar) was simply a step above in Rome.

In the championship, Jean-Éric Vergne consoled himself by taking the lead in the general classification. Indeed, Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) did not score any points following a touch with Antonio Félix da Costa (DS Techeetah, penalized for this incident and relegated 14th) and another contact against a wall.

“It was a fun but exhausting race, said “JEV’”. I thought I had the right strategy but Mitch was very fast. I hope this won't be the case in all the other rounds! I'm going to ask my team to do even better if we want to fight for victory because it's not enough. We will work towards Monaco, the next round (April 30). We have been very consistent since the start of the championship but we need to be more consistent and win races. »

Antonio Giovinazzi (Dragon / Penske) withdrew due to a mechanical problem, as did the two Mahindras of Oliver Rowland and Alexander Sims. The Indian team is having a nightmare start to the season, and has only scored the points for an eighth place in five rounds! The NIO 333 team has arrived and opened its account this season thanks to Oliver Turvey (7th).
