It is at the Yacht Club de Monaco, on the sidelines of the E-Prix which will be held this weekend in the Principality, that the Formula E and the FIA revealed the first images of Gen3, these new single-seaters which will take to the track from the 2022-2023 season. What strikes you first, obviously, is the completely futuristic look of these new 100% electric single-seaters, with non-existent curves and a fairly linear and geometric design.

The small revolution mainly concerns the power/energy unit aspect. The discipline indeed announces the fastest Formula E ever known, with a top speed estimated at 322 km/h. This will be made possible thanks to a 350 kW powertrain, which will be supported by a 250 kW engine also placed at the front, which will have the effect of doubling and even more its regenerative capacity with an advanced percentage of 95%. energy efficiency, compared to around 40% for a traditional internal combustion engine.

All this will also have the consequence of doubling compared to Gen2 the part of the race which can be contested thanks to the energy recovered on the track, with an estimate made at around 40%. The series also prides itself on being the first car which will not have hydraulic brakes at the rear, with “the addition to the front of the powertrain and its regenerative capacity”. A lot of work on ecological viability and sustainable development has also been carried out on this Gen3, notably concerning the construction of the car but also key elements such as the batteries.

As a reminder, there will be seven manufacturers competing during the ninth season in Formula E history in 2022-2023, with DS Automobiles, Jaguar, Mahindra Racing, Maserati, NIO 333, Nissan and Porsche Inc.
