More than an evolution, it is a revolution. There Formula E will abandon Gen2 to move to Gen3 single-seaters from the 2023 season. New frames which significantly improve performance thanks to new technical solutions.

The Gen3 will inaugurate a new electric motor-generator on the front axle which only comes into action to slow down the car, not to restart it afterwards. Thus, regeneration will peak at 600 kW (250 kW at the front, 350 kW at the rear), when it was 250 kW on the Gen2.

When accelerating, only the rear unit, 100 kW more powerful to reach 350 kW (around 470 hp), will be authorized to put the car back into gear. Finally, Formula E will reintroduce the idea of “refueling” into competition in order to promote ultra-fast charging technology. The sporting regulations will require each driver to stop for a few moments at a “pump” delivering up to 600 kWh, more than double that of the best public terminals today.

Finally, the compactness figures speak for themselves: -18,4 cm in length, -4 cm in height, -10 cm in width, wheelbase 13 cm shorter, and mass (driver included) reduced by 60 kg . Performance can only be markedly improved... The Gen3, already tested by the teams registered for the 2023 championship, will officially take to the track for the first time in Valencia, for pre-season testing.
