Lola, a brand founded in 1958 by legendary engineer Eric Broadley, disappeared in 2012. Former driver Till Bechtolsheimer bought the Lola brand and its registered trademarks, with the aim of bringing the manufacturer back into motorsport.

An objective now achieved, since Lola will commit to Formula E in Season 11, the next to be contested. The manufacturer, renowned for its chassis, which notably enjoyed the heyday of 24 Hours of Le Mans, is joining forces with Yamaha which will work on the development of the electric powertrain of the car.

Mark Preston, former director of Teecheetah, is now competition director of Lola Cars. Preston has Formula E experience, with his team having competed successfully in the championship before joining forces with French manufacturer DS.

“We are delighted to confirm our arrival in Formula E. For us, it is more than an opportunity to bring Lola back to the track, it is also a fantastic platform for technological development”, Preston said.

Lola also announces that this partnership with Yamaha is a first step towards a broader return to motorsport. The objective of the new bosses of the brand is to make it a leader in the development of sustainable solutions in the field of motor sports. All with a particular emphasis on electrification and hydrogen technology.

Lola's last adventure as a manufacturer in a single-seater championship dates back to 1997. That year, Lola entered into Formula 1 with the T97/30, which unfortunately only raced in Melbourne, failing to qualify for the Australian Grand Prix.
