Maserati has been discreet in terms of motorsport commitments since the end of the MC12 GT1 in 2010 and the GranTurismo GT4 in 2017. The Trident brand has decided to switch to electric vehicles by joining the Formula E from 2023.

The manufacturer will thus become the first Italian firm to compete in the electric single-seater championship.
Maserati, which won two World Drivers' Championship titles in Formula 1 with Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 and 1957, will not, however, be the first manufacturer from the Stellantis group to compete in the FE, because DS has already been playing there since 2016 (two Teams titles in 2019 and 2020).

“We are very proud to be back where we belong as players in the racing world, said Davide Grosso, CEO of Maserati. We are driven by passion and innovative by nature. We have a long history of world-class competitive excellence. »

Jean-Marc Finot, boss of Stellantis Motorsport, added: “It is a great pleasure for Stellantis Motorsport to play a role in Maserati’s return to racing. Beyond this piece of history, Maserati Formula E will be our technology laboratory to accelerate the development of high-efficiency electrified powertrains and intelligent software for our road-going sports cars. Formula E is the perfect championship for this purpose and we are very proud to be the first Italian brand to participate. »

Passionate about the history of motorsport across all disciplines, I learned to read thanks to AUTOhebdo. At least that's what my parents tell everyone when they see my name inside!
