Like Audi and BMW, Mercedes will also withdraw from the world championship of Formula E as an official team and manufacturer but in August 2022 only. A decision which comes as part of the new strategy put in place by Étoile which wants to offer a 100% electric road fleet before the end of the current decade.

" There Formula E has been a good driving force to prove our expertise and establish our Mercedes-EQ brand, justifies Markus Schäfer, Mercedes development director. In the future, we will continue to promote technological advancements – particularly in electric propulsion – with a focus on Formula 1 ».

Beyond its interest in the electrification of its entire road range in the years to come, Mercedes, with this withdrawal from the electric formula, wishes to concentrate its motorsport activities on Formula 1, “ the fastest laboratory for developing and demonstrating sustainable and scalable performance technologies ».

With the withdrawal confirmed, Mercedes will still compete in a final campaign (2021/2022) in Formula E which will be marked by the introduction of Gen3, the new generation of single-seaters in the series. The team will then study “ the best options for her to continue competing beyond the season 8”.
