Nissan joined the Formula E in Season 5, taking over from Renault, who was present during the first four seasons of the 100% electric championship. The Japanese manufacturer has signed, via its team's Team Principal, Tommaso Volpe, the documents attesting to Nissan's commitment for Seasons 13 (2026/2027) to 16 (2029/2030).

It is during Season 13 that the fourth generation of Formula E should be introduced, which will succeed the one currently in force. Gen4 will increase the power of current powertrains, increasing it to 600 kW, with a regeneration capacity set at 700 kW.

Nissan completed the purchase of the Nissan-e.dams team last year, thus fully committing itself as a manufacturer, with its own team, based in the premises of Viruses-Châtillon. Sébastien Buemi, who had been with the team since Season 1, achieved the best place in the Nissan championship, finishing 2nd in Season 5. The Swiss has been racing with Envision Racing since last season.

Nissan first manufacturer in Gen 4

“We are very pleased to continue our commitment to Formula E until 2030. As well as bringing excitement and on-track spectacle to our fans, our participation in the series will significantly contribute to our electrification goals defined in our Ambition 2030 plans », said Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation.

“Formula E is an incredible testing ground for new electric technologies, and we look forward to continuing to develop and race at least until the end of Season 16. The team is on an upward trajectory, and our new HQ will massively contribute to future growth, with state-of-the-art facilities that will help us develop our car for seasons to come”, added Tommaso Volpe.

Nissan is the first manufacturer to commit to the future Gen4. The arrival of this new car will constitute an important point for Formula E, which is looking for new manufacturers to expand its current grid. If eleven teams participate in the current Season 10, only five manufacturers manufacture the powertrains used.
