McLaren all he has to do is find his pilots to complete his arrival in Formula E. Looking for an engine supplier for its first campaign in the electric championship, the English team has found a buyer.
This Thursday, McLaren formalized an agreement with Nissan covering several years. In addition to supplying the British structure with electric motors, the Japanese manufacturer will provide it with a “ technical support » during the entire 3e Formula E era whose debut is planned for the 2022/2023 season.
« As part of the partnership, Nissan will provide its electric powertrain technology to the McLaren Formula E team for the duration of Formula E Gen3, can we read in the press release from McLaren. Through this relationship, both parties will work closely to compete against other successful brands in one of the most challenging and technically advanced racing series in the world."

« As we shape the team for its first season as McLaren in Formula E, we are naturally looking for the best partnerships and opportunities on all fronts – with technical being one of the key areas, says Zak Brown, boss of McLaren. Nissan has proven its knowledge, know-how and commitment over the past four seasons in Formula E, and as Gen3 begins, we are confident that this collaboration will bring great success to both parties. This is a true partnership that will improve the team's performance and develop Nissan's Formula E powertrain technology."
With this partnership, Nissan further confirms its involvement in Formula E. After purchasing the shares of DAMS last April (the team was called Nissan e.dams), the Japanese manufacturer now has a partner team to which it sells its powertrains. McLaren for its part just needs to find its drivers and will thus be able to officially launch its electric adventure.
