End of the adventure between Mahindra Racing and Oliver Rowland. The team indicated that the British driver was withdrawing “by mutual agreement”. His last race with the team was the Monaco e-Prix (May 6) which ended in an accident with Edoardo Mortara at the port chicane.

Mahindra Racing reserve driver Jehan Daruvala will however not be available for the next round of the championship. Formula E, played on June 4. The Indian will indeed be in Barcelona for the Formula 2 where he is involved with MP Motorsport.

It was therefore Roberto Merhi who was selected to sit behind the wheel of the car #8 in Indonesia. The Spaniard already had the opportunity to drive for Mahindra during the Rookie Test in Berlin on April 24.

« It is a huge honor for me to represent Mahindra Racing in Jakarta, declares the Spaniard I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and am determined to make the most of it. I had the chance to drive the M9Electro in Berlin, but Formula E is very different to any other series I have raced in, so the learning curve will be steep. But I feel prepared, excited and up for the challenge. »

“We are delighted to welcome Roberto to the Mahindra Racing team, adds Frédéric Bertrand, CEO of Mahindra Racing. Roberto has impressive experience in high-level racing and a good track record in major championships. He had a great run with us during the Rookie Test in Berlin last month and we could see that he has the potential to become a major asset for the Mahindra Racing team. It's not easy to arrive mid-season, but Roberto has experience working with the team, so I'm sure he will fit into the team brilliantly. »

Mahindra has not specified whether Roberto Merhi will finish the season or if it is just a freelance for the 32-year-old Spaniard at the 13 Grands Prix in Formula 1 (2015 with Marussia).
