The rumor had been circulating for a long time and it was made official this Wednesday. Stoffel Vandoorne, crowned world champion of Formula E 2022, will join the DS Penske team, a newly formed collaboration between the French manufacturer and the American team. The Belgian will be associated with Jean-Éric Vergne from 2023 for the arrival of Gen3.

Stoffel Vandoorne spent four years with the team Mercedes-EQ, culminating in a world champion title in season 8, obtained during the Seoul final. The Belgian also played a key role in the teams' title, with 15 podiums and three victories with the German manufacturer. The 30-year-old joins DS Automobiles, a manufacturer with two driver and team titles under its belt.

" I have looking forward to fighting to defend my world title” says Vandoorne

“I am really happy to join DS Penske starting next season, said Stoffel Vandoorne. It's a big change for me after four years at Mercedes, but I'm very excited to start working with the team. DS has achieved excellent results in the past (…) and I hope to improve it soon! »

The ex-pilot of Formula 1 will be alongside Jean-Éric Vergne, one of the drivers with the greatest track record in the electric championship. “It is also a great pleasure to be associated with Formula E's only two-time champion. I believe JEV and I will form one of the strongest teams for Season 9. We are now in full preparation with the Gen3 car and I'm just starting this story with my new team, so these are two exciting challenges for the years to come! One thing is certain: I can't wait to get back on the track, fight to defend my world title and collect many trophies! »
