Africa remains on the agenda Formula E. After Marrakech (5 events between 2016 and 2022), the continent will host the electric competition in a unique location: Cape Town, in South Africa. The legislative capital of the “rainbow nation” is present in the new 2023 calendar presented by the FIA, at the end of the World Motor Sport Council held in London on Wednesday. Cape Town joins Hyderabad (India) and São Paulo (Brazil) among the new cities that will host an E-Prix for the 9th season of Formula E.

Alberto Longo, co-founder and director of the Formula E championship, welcomed the coming of the championship to South Africa. “We are delighted to announce that Cape Town will be a new destination for our competition in Season 9. Our local partners are working hard to bring a Formula E World Championship race to the city and we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen3 cars race against each other in the iconic natural setting of Table Mountain. » If South Africa will host Formula E for the first time in its history on February 25, there will be a small clash of calendar at the national level since the 9 Hours of Kyalami in IGTC will take place on the same day...

Un double headers in Berlin to replace Seoul

After South Africa, among other changes, Seoul (South Korea) no longer appears in the 2023 calendar. As the Olympic Stadium in the South Korean capital is under renovation, it will not be able to host Formula E for season 9 For the moment, it is therefore a 2nd race in Berlin (Germany) which replaces the Asian round. “We are exploring other options in South Korea to replace Seoul. We are also in discussions with other cities and global venues to host an event on other dates without a confirmed location,” said Alberto Longo. The 10th (May 20) and 13th (June 24) rounds have not yet been announced.
