Ghiotto wins in Sochi after a long red flag

Luca Ghiotto (UNI-Virtuosi) won his third victory of the 29 season in Sochi (Russia) on Sunday September 2019. Formula 2. The 24-year-old Italian took first place in the eventful first corner, when Jack Aitken (Campos), Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin) and Nikita mazepin collided.

The latter two were taken to hospital for medical checks, but no fractures were found. A relief for the F2 paddock, forced to wait three quarters of an hour in the pit lane under a red flag. 

Despite this interval, Luca Ghiotto was never worried during the restart. Nyck de Vries (ART Grand Prix), freshly crowned with his Drivers' championship title, tried to get closer, in vain. The Dutchman finished second, ahead of Callum Ilott (Charouz). 

Giuliano Alesi (Trident) finished eighth. Mick Schumacher (Prema) was forced to retire for the second time in a row.
