GP Indy – Qualifying: Grosjean on pole!

Romain Grosjean obtained the first pole of his career in IndyCar at the Indy GP, only the third race he has participated in in the American series.

By qualifying for Fast 6, the Frenchman already obtained an unprecedented result who had not yet experienced better than Q2 (Barber), but he did better by dominating Josef Newgarden by 1/10th, who will accompany him on the first line.

For the Genevan, this is his first pole in 10 years! The previous one dates back to 2011, in GP2, in Istanbul.

«I am very happy and proud, I had forgotten what it felt like to get a pole, reacted the former Haas driver F1 Team, it's really a great result, and as we have a good car I hope to confirm it in the race».

«It's like feeling alive again, added the 35-year-old rookie, It's been a long time since I've been this happy».

Sixth in EL2, and 5th in EL1, the Genevan was at ease throughout the day on the Indianapolis road, which he had never been on before. “This is the circuit that seems most familiar to me since the start of the season, he explained, I quickly felt that I was going to perform well here».

Behind Grosjean and Newgarden, the 2nd line will be composed of Jack Harvey (Meyer Shank) and Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi). Another rookie to experience the joys of Fast6 for the first time, Scott McLaughlin (Penske) will start from 5th row.

Grosjean was the only Frenchman to participate in Fast6, while simon pagenaud (Team Penske) stopped in Q2, and will start from 10th place.

As for Sébastien Bourdais, victim of a mechanical problem during FP1 and not in the rhythm of the day, he will start from 20th position.

The race will start on Saturday at 20:30 p.m. (HF). Will Grosjean be able to create the sensation again?
