GP2 Asia: Valsecchi takes the lead

Davide Valsecchi seems to have gained the upper hand over his rivals in the GP2 Asia Series. Last week (October 23-24), the Italian driver already distinguished himself by setting the best time in two of the four practice sessions reserved for teams participating in the GP2 Asia Series. This weekend, the driver of the iSport International team confirmed his good intentions, achieving the best time during free practice and then during the qualifying session in Abu Dhabi.

Davide Valsecchi will therefore start at the head of the first race of the 2009/10 GP2 Asia season, after having beaten Sam Bird (ART Grand Prix), Fabio Leimer (Ocean Racing Technology) and Luca Filippi (Meritus). “ It was an incredible day, comments the pole sitter. I felt really strong and confident with iSport. It's a great team. The car is really good for me and the team loves me at the moment! Last week, during testing, I immediately found the rhythm. I think that the work we did together over the two days there will help us a lot in preparing for the race. »

The pilot of the Renault Driver Development will therefore start from pole in this first race of the GP2 Asia Series season. The first race will start on Saturday at 8 a.m. (French time), with the second taking place on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.

On the French side, Charles Pic is only in twentieth position, seven tenths behind his teammate Rodolfo Gonzalez. As for the French teams, ART Grand Prix continues to take center stage, with Sam Bird's second time. His teammate, Marcus Ericsson, is fifteenth. The DAMS team, less successful than last season, is in the middle of the pack, with the eleventh and fourteenth respective times of Edoardo Piscopo and Christian Vietoris.
