GP2 – Berthon plunged into the unknown in Singapore

After two years in Formula Renault 3.5, Nathanaël Berthon has decided to move to the GP2 Series within the Racing Engineering team. For his first season in the category, the Frenchman scored two podiums, in Barcelona and Budapest, and currently occupies 12th place in the general classification with 59 points. He will end his campaign on the Singapore circuit, a real discovery for the Clermontois. “ I was not able to learn the circuit on a simulator this time, because we did not have the route, explains Berthon. So I watched many videos of F1, in particular on-board cameras, and I took a lot of notes. The day after Monza, we worked on strategies with the Racing Engineering team. Then, once I returned home to Auvergne, I did sport every day, intensely. It is a very turbulent, very technical urban circuit, faster than Monaco and more tortuous than Valencia, with very tight portions and fairly close walls. Overtaking will be a very delicate exercise. And as it is very hot there, you will also have to know how to manage the tires very well. »

Despite two disappointing meetings in Belgium then in Italy, Berthon does not ask any questions and will try to end the year in style. “ Except for my two very average starts at Monza, I could hardly have done better, He added. That?s why I don?t turn my brain upside down before Singapore. I don't want to put pressure on myself. But if there is one point on which I feel frustrated, it is having had good races, particularly in Belgium, without there being a result at the end. »
