GP2-C1: Alexander Rossi ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne

Everything seemed to smile on the Frenchman Pierre Gasly on Italian soil. After having signed pole position yesterday for the main race this Saturday, the driver of the team DAMS had made a perfect start and took advantage of the fight between his pursuers Alex Lynn (his teammate within the French team) and the championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne (ART Grand Prix) to secure his leadership.

But a problem after his pit stop made the Formula vice-champion lose all hope of a good result. Renault 3.5 2014. These mishaps will ultimately be the business of Alexander Red (Racing Engineering) who came to win after coming back on the leader Stoffel Vandoorne after halfway. The American signs his second success in a row in the discipline after his victory in the sprint race in Belgium.

Behind the two men, the podium is completed by Mitch Evans (Russian Time) returned from the back of the starting grid after his exclusion from qualifying last night. The New Zealander precedes Richie Stanaway (Status GP) and Artem Markelov (Russian Time). Norman Nato (Arden), once fourth, was penalized with a five-second penalty for excessive speed in the pits and finished sixth ahead of Arthur Pic (Campos Racing).

The race was marked by the exit of the Dutchman Meindert van Buuren (MP Motorsport) at the Ascari Variant, causing the entry of the safety car on the 4th lap, as well as by the spectacular collision between Alex Lynn and Sergey Sirotkin ( Rapax) at the first chicane, with the two men fighting for virtual control of the race at that point.

The sprint race at Monza will take place tomorrow morning at 10:35 a.m. with Jordan King (Racing Engineering) in pole position.
