Mitch Evans (Russian Time) is on an upward trajectory in the GP2 Series. After his first victory in the Main Race at Silverstone, the New Zealander returned to victory at Hockenheim despite disastrous qualifying where he only started from 15th place on the grid. The winner had a superb stint with the soft tires which proved more effective than the medium tires adopted by most of the field.
The driver of the Russian team is ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (ART GP) and pole sitter Jolyon Palmer (Dams) who still increases his lead to 39 points against Felipe Nasr (Carlin), only fifth behind Stefano Coletti (Racing Engineering). Simon Trummer (Rapax) follows in sixth position ahead of Johnny Cecotto (Trident) and Nathanaël Berthon (Venezuela GP Lazarus) who takes his first points of the season and who should start on pole for Race 2 if the classification remains frozen.
The other French people were less successful. While Tom Dillmann made a brilliant debut at Caterham Racing where he replaces Alexander Red now with Campos Racing by taking fourth place on the grid, the French driver stalled when the lights went out and only finished 12th. His compatriot Arthur Pic (Campos Racing) was also unsuccessful as he lost almost a lap following a bad stop and ultimately finished 19th.
Race 2 of the GP2 Series at Hockenheim will be contested from 10:35 a.m.
