GP2 – Frijns on the sidelines, things are moving before Budapest

So many changes on the sidelines of the Hungarian meeting for the GP2 Series! First of all Robin Frijns will not be at the start this weekend. The reigning Formula champion Renault FR 3.5 Series no longer has the necessary budget to continue its collaboration with Hilmer Motorsport, which hired it piecemeal. " This is how. No money, no steering wheel! Winning a championship is not enough these days! Good luck to all the GP2 guys”, declared, disappointed, the Dutchman on his Twitter account. Robin Frijns could be paying the price economic difficulties that Sauber is currently experiencing en Formula 1, with whom he holds the position of reservist.

These misfortunes are the business of Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, who takes up the place left vacant by Frijns in the German team. Already entered this year by MP Motorsport, the Briton sees his former seat entrusted to the Spaniard Dani Clos, a regular in the series, who has already won twice in this category. Currently an Auto GP driver, Vittorio Ghirelli is preparing to make his debut in the GP2 Series this weekend in the Venezuelan GP Lazarus, alongside Austrian René Binder, at the wheel of the No. 25 Dallara. Finally, another driver makes his return: the Portuguese Ricardo Teixeira joins Trident Racing, for whom he played in 2009, in place of Kevin Ceccon. Just like for Robin Frijns, the 2011 Auto GP champion must interrupt his season due to lack of financial support.
