GP2 – New victory for Gasly

Pierre Gasly (Prema Racing) scored its third victory of the season by taking victory at the end of Race 1 of the GP2 Series at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). The resident of Red Bull Junior Team lost several positions but managed to regain the advantage against Gustav Malja (Rapax) and Jordan King (Racing Engineering).

The Briton took second place after complaining about non-compliance with the leader's "Virtual Safety Car" procedure, the race having been interrupted following the stop on track of Norman Nato (Racing Engineering) while the French was in the fight for the podium.

Alex Lynn (Dams) thus completes the top three after taking advantage of the misfortunes of the French pilot. The Briton finished ahead of Russian Time drivers Raffaele Marciello and Artem Markelov, while pole sitter Antonio Giovinazzi could only salvage a sixth place after missing his start.

Although Gustav Malja managed to take the lead of the race in the first laps, the Swede only reached the finish line in eighth place behind Luca Ghiotto (Trident). His position will nevertheless allow him to start on pole for Race 2.

Sergey Sirotkin (ART Grand Prix), who shared the lead in the Drivers' standings with Pierre Gasly, only took ninth position ahead of Oliver Rowland (MP Motorsport) after a tough fight with the Briton.
