GP2 – Pierre Gasly will end the season at Caterham

Le Red Bull Junior Team is still being talked about. After securing a hopeful future for Max Verstappen, it is the turn of Pierre Gasly to take a new step by discovering the GP2 Series. The Arden International driver who is fighting for the Formula title Renault 3.5 Series will contest the last three rounds of the season at Caterham Racing which has a free place following the departure of Alexander Red, and the three-round interim provided by Tom Dillmann, who preferred to decline another invitation and honor his commitments in Porsche Carrera Cup, looking to the future. “It won’t be an easy step, but we will make sure the transition is smooth. Our experienced engineers will guide it”, commented Mia Sharizman, Team Principal of Caterham Racing.

Pierre Gasly will make his debut this weekend in Monza (Italy) before competing in the Sochi event (Russia, October 11 and 12) and the final in Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi, November 22 and 23). The end of the year promises to be busy for the 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 champion who should be able to complete his program in the World Series by Renault. “It’s a chance to be able to gain experience with a car different on circuits F1 », comments the 18-year-old Frenchman. “The GP2 will obviously be different to drive because it has more power but less aero. I will have to adapt my driving but that is part of my job. I understood by following the GP2 races that we have to manage tire degradation because the races are longer, which also means that there are more opportunities for overtaking. This should be fun. »
