The new Sauber F1 Team test driver will return to the GP2 Series peloton this season with the Italian outfit Trident.

GP2 – Raffaele Marciello joins Trident

Crowned European Champion of F3 in 2013, the Italian Raffaele Marciello took part in the GP2 Series championship last year with the team Racing Engineering and notably won a victory at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Just confirmed Sauber F1 Team test driver last December, the 20-year-old pilot was made official today within trans trainingalpine Trident for the 2015 GP2 campaign.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Trident. I could feel their trust and immediate interest and I really appreciated their attention to me and my riding style. Given this mutual interest, I am sure that we will be able to work in great harmony with the objective of achieving the best possible results. I know there is a lot of work to do, but, thanks to the support of Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy, I believe we have what it takes to succeed. » explains Marciello.

Team Principal Maurizio Salvadori says he is delighted to be able to field his compatriot in 2015. “I understand that the expectations on him and the results in 2015 are very high, but I am sure that the technical staff at Trident Motorsport are ready to provide 'Lello' with a winning car, and everyone is determined to achieve the objectives set. We will do our best to make our contribution to the career of “Lello”, as he has the chance to finally be able to bring the Italian banner back to the grid in F1."

The first meeting of the GP2 Series will take place in Bahrain, from April 17 to 19.
