To hope to take pole position for the 500 Indianapolis 2022, it was better to wear the colors of the Chip Ganassi Racing team this Sunday, May 22. Indeed, the team placed four cars in Fast 6, the final phase of qualifying for the Indy 500!

Already the fastest in Fast 12, Scott Dixon amazed the crowd seated in the stands at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) by completing a series of four laps free of any driving errors. The New Zealander recorded his fifth pole at the Brickyard, at a speed never before seen for a pole-sitter in the history of the century-old event: 234.046 miles, or a maddening pace of 376.660 km/h!

Scott Dixon thus surpasses the legends AJ Foyt and Helio Castroneves in the table of the best pole sitters at Indy, and is one length closer to the four-time winner, Rick Mears (6 poles). In 1996, Arie Luyendyk (236.986 mph) was faster; however, his run was not conducted during Pole Day, but the following day.

On the front row, we will find Rinus VeeKay (Ed Carpenter Racing) and the outgoing champion, Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing). On the second row are Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing), Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing).

Romain Grosjean (Andretti) negotiated this session very well. Even if he was not part of Fast 6, the Frenchman is the best rookie in the field with a 9th place, ahead of two big names like Takuma Sato (Dale Coyne Racing) and Will Power (Penske), sorry!

The star of the Nascar Jimmie Johnson (Chip Ganassi Racing) will start 12th. The rest of the grid is unchanged from the Saturday evening session. The 500 Indianapolis 2022 will begin at 18:45 p.m. Sunday, May 29.
