The qualifying session, lasting thirty minutes, saw all the competitors quickly take to the track to quickly set a reference time. Giacomo Ricci and Pastor Maldonado lit the first fuses before seeing Romain Grosjean display its velocity.
The Frenchman was threatened mainly by di Grassi, Zuber and d?Ambrosio and had to come out at the end of the session to cover his best time. Stuck in traffic during his flying lap, however, he saw his time not being beaten. By claiming the first pole of the season, Romain Grosjean also collected the first two points of the exercise. Hoping to make them bear fruit on Saturday in the race.
