Hülkenberg blazes in front of his audience

Nico Hulkenberg, driver of the ART Grand Prix team, is increasingly asserting himself within the GP2 Series field. Champion of Formula BMW in 2005 and Formula 3 Euro Series last year, the native of Emmerich presents himself as a rookie already experienced in the antechamber of the Formula 1. Reserve driver of the F1 team Williams, the young German learns quickly in GP2 and is now among the best. Fourth in the general classification, he has not yet won this season but displays solid consistency. Indeed, Hülkenberg has slipped into the Top 5 in the last six races, a unique performance in the paddock.

During this qualifying session, Lucas di Grassi was in the lead for a long time, ahead of the two ART Grand Prix drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Pastor Maldonado. At the end of the session, Roldan Rodriguez settles the field, taking pole from di Grassi by seven hundredths. But the German is determined to win at home and attacks lap after lap. One minute from the end of the session, Hülkenberg improved by less than a tenth to take pole which will allow him to start in the lead, Saturday at 16 p.m., on the Nürburgring. For their part, the French are not celebrating, with 14th place in Romain Grosjean, the 22nd time of Franck Perera and the 24th of Nelson Panciatici.
