Hulkenberg flies away

Nico Hulkenberg continues to impress in the GP2 Series championship. After taking pole and then taking second place in race 1 in Valencia, the German managed to win in the sprint race on Sunday. Starting seventh according to the principle of the reverse grid, Hulkenberg overcame his opponents one by one to quickly climb into the lead.

However, the start of the GP2 Series sprint race is once again disrupted. Several drivers including Michael Herck (DPR), Luca Di Grassi (Racing Engineering) or Andreas Zuber (PartyPokerRacing.com Team Coloni) make a mistake and force the safety car to come out for the first time. At the restart, Kamui Kobayashi, who started from pole following the downgrade of Pastor Maldonado and who damaged his front wing, decided to continue but saw his pursuers attack him.

After only three laps, Nico Hulkenberg (ART Grand Prix), the leader of the general classification, already returned to the wheels of Kamui Kobayashi (Dams) even though he had started from 7th position. The Japanese driver was then forced to return to the pits to change his front wing which was threatening to come loose. Hulkenberg took advantage of this and took command. The German then advances Perez (Telmex Arden International), Mortara (Telmex Arden International), D?Ambrosio (Dams) and Petrov. The latter quickly passes D?Ambrosio to climb into fourth position. Just behind, Franck Perera (DPR) is sixth and first French driver.

After a third intervention by the safety car, Petrov went on the attack again and passed Mortara to climb into third position. Perera, for his part, is experiencing difficulties and is falling far down the rankings. In front, Hulkenberg widens the gap and sets the best time in the race.

After an eventful start to the race where no less than 10 cars out of 26 retired, the intensity dropped a notch and Hulkenberg inexorably flew towards new success. Second, Perez must however contain Petrov's attacks until the checkered flag. The positions barely changed and Nico Hulkenberg thus won his fourth success of the season after his double in Germany and his victory in Hungary. Now 20 points ahead of Petrov, he has a comfortable margin with three meetings to go before the end of the season.
