Indy 500 – Jay Howard increases the tempo

Recruited from Schmidt Peterson Motorsports alongside the starters Mikhail Aleshin and James Hinchcliffe for the 101st edition of the Indianapolis 500, contested on May 28, Jay Howard had been away from the race for six years, but was most effective yesterday on the American oval.

Author of a best lap of 39 at 692 mph (226,744 km/h), the Briton established the best average recorded since the start of free practice last Monday.

Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda) follows 161 thousandths ahead of his teammate Marco Andretti and the DW12 – McLaren-Honda Andretti Fernando Alonso, who once again enters the top 5 with a personal reference of 39″890.

Fifth time of the day, and best Chevrolet representative, Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) also ended up in the wall, without injuries for the pilot of Roger Penske.

Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) climbed into the top 10 at 356 thousandths, not without having suffered an engine problem, when simon pagenaud (Team Penske) signs the 23rd time at 0″586.

Note the times should be improved this Friday, with the increase in turbo pressure.
