Indy 500 – Ryan Briscoe takes pole

After the first part of Pole Day which determined the positions from tenth to 24th place, the second part was the highlight of the day since the first nine positions were decided between the fastest competitors. The gaps were very close but Ryan Briscoe was the fastest, completing the four laps at an average speed of 226,484mph (364,49km/h). The Penske driver is only 0,003 mph ahead of the DW12 of James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport), who was the fastest during the first part.

Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) will start from third place ahead of Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport). If ovals were not his strong suit in the past, Will Power seems to have prepared for it since the Team Penske resident took fifth place ahead of his teammate Helio Castroneves. Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing) ranks seventh for his first participation in the Indianapolis 500. Tony Kanaan and EJ Viso, two KV Racing Technology drivers, complete the grid for the second part. They will therefore start just in front of their teammate Rubens Barrichello.
