The qualifying session on the Tricky Triangle of Pocono in Pennsylvania smiled at Helio Castroneves. The three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 dominated the session, completing two laps at an average of 220,530 mph (354,908 km/h).

The Team Penske resident takes a triple for the stable of “The Captain” Roger Penske. simon pagenaud and reigning champion Will Power were the fastest behind Castroneves, and ahead of the No. 12 DW67 of Josef Newgarden (CFH Racing) for a quadruple of Chevrolet engines.

The first representative of the Honda clan is named Graham Rahal. The driver of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, second in the championship, climbs into fifth position, and precedes three cars from the Andretti Autosport team, entrusted to Carlos Muñoz, Justin Wilson and Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing? Chevrolet) enters the top 10 while Tristan Vautier (Dale Coyne Racing? Honda) takes 13th place. Significantly less success for Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske) since the championship leader will only start from 19th position. But the Colombian remains a formidable competitor on this track, having won here last year.

Note that Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing? Chevrolet) was the victim of a spectacular accident, after losing control of his car at the level of realge no. 3. The driver, whose car hit the protective fence after taking off from the track, was taken to the medical center, from where he was later able to emerge.
