IndyCar – Hinchcliffe on pole for the 100th edition of Indy 500

The 100th edition of the Indianapolis 500 will see James Hinchcliffe start from pole position. Simon Pagenaud and Sébastien Bourdais will start 8th and 19th respectively.

IndyCar – Hinchcliffe on pole for the 100th edition of Indy 500

Best time yesterday on the first day of qualifying for the 100th edition of the Indianapolis 500, James Hinchcliffe confirmed his good intentions by giving Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Honda pole position. The Canadian completed his four laps at an average speed of 230,760 mph (371 km/h).

Alongside him on the front row will be the American Josef Newgarden (Ed Carpenter Racing / Chevrolet) and his compatriot Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport / Honda). Following in second will be Towsend Bell (Andretti Autosport / Honda), Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport / Honda) and Will Power (Team Penske / Chevrolet).

Eighth time of the Fast nine shootout, simon pagenaud (Team Penske / Chevrolet) will start between Mikhail Aleshin (Schmidt Peterson / Honda) and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske/Chevrolet).

Just earlier today, Group 1 pitted the drivers ranked yesterday from 10th to 33rd places. At stake, the formations of lines 4 to 11. Best time of the session, Oriol Servia (Schmidt Peterson / Honda) will start, on May 29, from 10th place on the starting grid, inside the fourth line. He will have, at his side, the Colombian Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport / Honda) and the American rookie Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport/Honda).

New Zealander Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing / Chevrolet) will start thirteenth, between Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt Enterprises / Honda) and Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport / Honda). Juan Pablo Montoya (Pensle / Chevrolet) will start from 17th place, ahead of Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing / Chevrolet) and Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Technology/Chevrolet).

Having made a mistake on his exit lap, Alex Tagliani (AJ Foyt Enterprises / Honda) will bring up the rear when the lights go out.
