Will Power (Team Penske) signs his second victory in a row after Detroit (Michigan), the 27th of his career, by winning the Grand Prix of Road America (Wisconsin) ahead of Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), while Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske).

The 2014 champion remained at the forefront throughout the event, the only neutralization of which occurred following the exit of the track of Conor Daly (Dale Coyne Racing) who went into the gravel trap at the first turn.

The New Zealander's misfortunes could have benefited simon pagenaud (Team Penske) in contention for victory, but the Championship leader experienced a sudden loss of speed during the final loops and was only able to reach the finish in 13th place. The Poitevin driver only lost six points in the Drivers' standings, his new direct opponent Helio Castroneves still being 74 points behind while Scott Dixon fell to fourth place, 90 points behind the Frenchman.

Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) finished in 18th position after having to change his rear wing at the start of the race.
