IndyCar – Power seizes its chance in Toronto

Success smiled on Will Power (Team Penske – Chevrolet) in the final part of the Toronto event, to achieve an important victory with a view to the championship for the 2014 champion.

A few moments before the accident Josef Newgarden (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet) less than thirty laps from the finish, the Australian was called back for a pit stop by Team Penske.

A masterstroke for the Roger Penske formation, since Power started the restart behind Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), who had not yet made his stop, but above all in front Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) who had dominated the start of the race, or the championship leader simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet), who were forced to pit under Full Course Yellow.

Power finally regained first position after Kanaan's return and took the victory ahead of his teammate Helio Castroneves, however slowed down by a puncture at the start of the event just before the first passages through the pit lane. James Hinchcliffe (SPM – Honda) completes the podium.

Several interruptions punctuated the event, from the first moments of the race, with a collision involving Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), Graham Rahal (Team RLL – Honda), at turn 8, who came out with a puncture and Ryan-Hunter Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda) who was unable to avoid the car Ganassi spins.

The final Full Course Yellow will be deployed three laps from the finish after the incidents involving Jack Hawksworth (AJ Foyt Enterprises – Honda) and Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske – Chevrolet). The Colombian was one of the leaders at the start of the race, notably coming into contact with Josef Newgarden, an incident which caused the display of a yellow flag. Newgarden will also have to return to the pits to change his rear wing damaged in the maneuver.

Will Power performs excellently in the championship against Simon Pagenaud, only ninth behind Scott Dixon and Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing – Chevrolet), who also stopped before the decisive neutralization for Power.

Note that Josef Newgarden was admitted to the medical center after his accident, but was released immediately. The American will, however, have to undergo new examinations tomorrow to be declared fit to pilot, he who had been in an accident in Texas and suffered fractures to his hand and collarbone.
