IndyCar – Ryan Briscoe back behind the wheel at Sonoma

He had to wait a month. Ryan Briscoe returned to action this Tuesday at the wheel of the Panther Racing car during testing at the Sonoma circuit. The Australian had not ridden since the first race of the double meeting in Toronto on July 13, where he broke a wrist after an outing. “The test went very well and my wrist held up well”, announced the pilot on his Twitter account. Winner last year on the Sonoma road circuit, and author of a top-5 finish in his last five appearances in California, Ryan Briscoe received the green light from the organizers to resume competition. He should, by all logic, pilot the car n°4 of the National Guard Panther Racing on this occasion, even if this has not yet been officially announced.

During this session where eight teams participated, we were also able to see Lucas Luhr. The 34-year-old driver competed for the first time against the No. 97 Sarah Fischer Hartman Racing car. The same one with which the German, entered the rest of the time in ALMS with Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, to debut in IndyCar Series, still on this circuit, during the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

An event which could count, in addition to Takuma Sato, a new Japanese at the start: Ryo Hirakawa. Champion of F3 in Japan last year, the driver was also testing at Dale Coyne Racing. Without knowing, for the moment, whether the experiment proved conclusive.
