IndyCar – Saavedra returns to Sonoma

Sebastian Saavedra is not a rookie in IndyCar Series since the Colombian had already competed in the 2011 season with Conquest Racing (25th in the Championship). The latter has demoted this year in Indy Lights where he currently occupies third place in the Championship behind Esteban Guerrieri and Tristan Vautier but he still retains one foot in the premier category since he was able to compete in the Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Autosport and that he will be back at the wheel of the DW12-Chevrolet for the Sonoma event on August 26.

Michael Andretti, the president of the eponymous team, admits to having been impressed by the performances of Sebastian Saavedra and does not hide his desire to see him return full time to the first category of the discipline. “I have been impressed this year with Sebastian and the way AFS Racing is managing his career. We are all aware that his season in Indy Lights is the best decision for him since he can progress in this category. Having the opportunity to race at the Indy 500 and Sonoma allows him to better get used to the new DW12 so he can return to the category. We also want him to join our three drivers (James Hinchcliffe, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti) and his work as a test driver is a boon for us all. This program places him in a good position to prepare for his future. »
