Fifteen days ago, Sébastien Bourdais took pole position for Race 1 in Toronto, Canada, and ended a seven-year drought in IndyCar by achieving victory in the streets of the Canadian city. On his momentum, the Frenchman from the KV Racing – Chevrolet team once again showed his burst of speed during qualifying this Saturday on the Mid-Ohio track.
At the end of a Fast 6 which he largely dominated, taking advantage of his final lap on a drying track, Bourdais was ahead of Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing driver Josef Newgarden by more than five tenths. Tony Kanaan (Team Ganassi – Chevrolet) hoped to take pole to put himself in a good position to continue his team's series on this track (six victories in the last seven editions), but failed more than eight tenths behind the Habs. Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport – Honda), Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda) and Will Power (Team Penske – Chevrolet) complete the top 6 in these qualifications.
Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet), championship leader before this round, took 15th place, while Scott Dixon (Team Ganassi – Chevrolet), winner of four of the last seven races in Ohio, only took 22nd place after that his time was canceled at the start of qualifying after forcing a red flag. simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda) ranks 9th.
