IndyCar – Tony Kanaan joins AJ Foyt Racing

As expected for several weeks, Tony Kanaan will leave Chip Ganassi Racing for AJ Foyt Racing next year. The Brazilian who has 20 seasons in IndyCar will be the first driver from the AJ Foyt Racing team to win the Indy 500 (in 2013) while having a full program with the team.

Tony Kanaan has signed a multi-season contract with the team without details having been specified. AJ Foyt Racing will enter two Chevrolet single-seaters in 2018, the No. 14 being entrusted to TK while the No. 4 will be reserved for a second driver who must be announced.

“It’s a big challenge for both of us, commented Tony Kanaan. They want to raise the level of the team and I want that too. I think I can still do the job and it's a perfect combination for both of us. It will be very rewarding to see that we can still achieve it. »

“That’s what carries us. Even before I thought about riding for him, he was already saying nice things about me. He said, for example, that I would have been good in his time or that I reminded him of himself when he was younger., added Tony Kanaan.

Tony Kanaan joined Chip Ganassi Racing in 2014, replacing Dario Franchitti after spending three years with KV Racing. If the 1997-year-old 42 Indy Lights champion has scored 17 victories in IndyCar, he has not won in the discipline since the 2014 season finale at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (California), a period of 50 races without success.
