IndyCar – Will Power in pole position at Sonoma

Will Power is on a mission at the end of the season. Leader of the championship before the Sonoma meeting, the Team Penske driver is on his way to his first title in IndyCar, he who had failed in this same position twice in 2010 and 2012. On his favorite track in California (Power is the defending champion here and has won three of the last four races contested), the driver of the DW12 n°12 took pole position yesterday. Enough to grab a new bonus point which increases his advantage at the top of the championship to 40 points over his teammate Helio Castroneves, 6th on the grid for the race which will start this evening.

Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing – Honda) will start alongside Will Power and reigning champion Scott Dixon (Team Ganassi – Chevrolet) took 3rd place. We were waiting for the French drivers on this road route. If Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet) took 7th place, simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda) will only start the 85-lap race from 15th place. Power therefore has the opportunity to widen the gap even further with Castroneves and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda), 10th on the grid, from this evening and before the final at Fontana in a week where the points will be doubled for the occasion.
