Bourdais: “A pace not good enough to aim for anything”

After having disputed the 24 Hours of Le Mans within the Risi Competizione, with a 4th place in GTE Pro at the finish, Sébastien Bourdais made his return to the peloton IndyCar this weekend in Indianapolis, for a program including the last three races of 2020, before a full season in 2021 with AJ Foyt.

With a logical adaptation phase for both parties, since the Manceau was unable to aim for the leading roles at the wheel of the DW12 – Chevrolet n°14 last night, finishing only 21st in a “non-race” according to his own words.

“I tried to do everything I could, analyzes Bourdais. Initially it was complicated because basically I was right behind Scott Dixon and I didn't feel like I wanted to be there and take any risks and because of that I just lost a bunch of positions.

I started going left, right. It was a bit of a shame. Then the tire degradation was quite high, without being able to use them properly. We didn't have the balance, we were really struggling. The whole race was a bit difficult.

It didn't get better or worse, it stayed like that, and I never found anything that seemed like it could get us out of there […] In the second half of the race, we were a lap behind and We tried not to bother others. Our pace wasn't good enough to aim for anything. »

Sébastien Bourdais and AJ Foyt will have a first opportunity to catch up this Saturday for the second race of the Indianapolis meeting.
