Winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 2004 with Rahal-Letterman Racing, Buddy Rice had abandoned it?IndyCar end of 2008 for the benefit of Grand-Am. But the American could not miss the centenary edition of the Indy 500. At 35 years old, he will defend the colors of Panther Racing on May 29 and will have the young JR Hillebrand as his teammate.
“I am delighted to join the Panther team, underlines the winner of the Formula Atlantic in 2000. The initial goal was to compete in more races, but this is the first step. I am here to help JR (Hillebrand his teammate, editor's note) and the team. The key to my return is that I wanted to evolve in a competitive environment in order to have a chance to win. I didn't want to come back to Indy just to do more laps. I have had proposals in the past that did not come to fruition for various reasons. Panther is a team capable of winning the race, so when this opportunity was offered to me, I could not refuse it. »
Buddy Rice's last participation in the Indianapolis 500 dates back to 2008. He then defended the colors of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
