Carlin-McLaren, a “win-win” partnership

After joining forces with Andretti Autosport in 2017, Mclaren racing will work this year, at the Indy 500, with Carlin. Arrival in IndyCar last year, the British team has little experience of the discipline, but it has the advantage of having won all the championships of car renowned, particularly in Europe.

« We will help them, we will be their partner for everything concerning logistics and operations, welcomes Trevor Carlin. It will be interesting. Our team is based not far from McLaren in the United Kingdom. Our relations are very good. They are very involved (in the Indy 500 program. Editor's note) and can rely on colossal resources, it's a big company. Obviously it's a common chassis, so there's a lot of things they'd like to do that they can't do. We will try to help them understand what they can and cannot do. I'm sure they will push the boundaries as much as possible. And then we will benefit from what they learned with Fernando. It will be a win-win. We'll give them a foundation, hopefully move it forward and we'll benefit from it in return. »

Fernando Alonso to therefore exchange information with Max Chilton, Charlie Kimball and Pat O'Ward, all three of whom will be driving a car entered under the Carlin banner.

At McLaren, the whole team is hard at work. President of the program, Bob Fernley (ex-Force India) is also in St Petersburg this weekend, to attend the opening round of the IndyCar Series. The Briton is accompanied by Gil de Ferran, current sporting director of McLaren and winner of the 2003 edition of the Indianapolis 500.
