Mari Hulman George, chairman emeritus of the board of directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hulman & Company, parent company of the IndyCar Series, has died at the age of 83.

Death of Mari Hulman George

The world of IndyCar Series is in mourning this Saturday following the announcement of the death of Husband Hulman George, Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hulman & Company, parent company of the IndyCar Series, died at the age of 83.

President of the legendary American oval from 1988 to 2016, the daughter of Anton Hulman Jr, who bought the track in 1945, began her career in motorsport by notably founding the HOW team, fielding a good number of cars in the series American Automobile Association and United States Auto Club.

Mari Hulman George, married to Elmer George who drove for HOW, even lined up a car for the latter at the start of the Indianapolis 500 in 1962 and 1963. She appeared regularly to proclaim the famous “Start your engines” at the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400 in Nascar.
