Dixon starts the counter in Detroit

For the 14th consecutive season, Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) will have won at least one victory. The four-time champion won Race 1 in Detroit (Michigan) ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay and pole sitter Alexander Red who lost several positions after his first pit stop. The New Zealander won his 42nd success in the discipline.

The former Indy 500 winner adopted a two-stop strategy unlike his American rival who pitted three times and was able to maintain the advantage despite two race interruptions at the end of the session, the first being due to the exit of Graham Rahal (RLL Racing) and the second to a collision between Charlie Kimball (Carlin) and Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing).

Scott Dixon put the Andretti drivers in check as behind Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi, Marco Andretti finished just off the podium, ahead of Takuma Sato (RLL Racing).

Recent Indy 500 winner Will Power (Team Penske) was the first Chevrolet driver to finish, finishing seventh behind Ed Jones (Chip Ganassi Racing). His teammate simon pagenaud was in more difficulty since he ranked 17th. Sebastian Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) had to settle for 13th place.

Alexander Rossi is now the new leader of the Championship, four points ahead of Scott Dixon. Will Power follows at seven units. Sébastien Bourdais is in eighth place in the ranking, two places ahead of his compatriot Simon Pagenaud.

Race 2 from Detroit will be broadcast this Sunday from 21:45 p.m. French time on Canal+ Sport.
