Dixon takes back the reins

Scott Dixon, who started third, managed an impeccable race to claim his twentieth victory in IndyCar Series. “ I think Target's car was fantastic from the start », admitted the New Zealander at the end of the race. Third on the grid, Scott Dixon started perfectly behind Ryan Briscoe and Justin Wilson.

Ryan Briscoe, starting from pole position, keeps the lead into the first corner, leaving Justin Wilson at a distance. But the latter, very restless, managed to overtake the leader on the sixth lap. The Briton can then lead the race, seeing Scott Dixon come back on his heels.

After the first round of refueling, Wilson still leads ahead of Dixon, Briscoe and Franchitti. But, coming back to Milka Duno, late, on the 37th lap, the leader did not suspect that he risked losing his lead. By missing his overtake on Duno, Wilson saw Dixon take the opportunity to take the lead.

So sixth, Helio Castroneves rubs shoulders with gravel and leads to a yellow flag period. At the restart, Graham Rahal overtakes Dario Franchitti and, in front, Scott Dixon maintains his leadership. Shortly after, Danica Patrick was pushed off the track by Mike conway, imposing a new yellow flag period, with the restart taking place on the 49th lap.

The second round of refueling went off without a hitch for the leaders, except for Justin Wilson, who left too early and was brought back by his mechanics before being able to leave. Author of a perfect save, Scott Dixon consolidates his lead and flies to his fourth victory of the season, the twentieth of his career, a record, with almost thirty seconds ahead of Ryan Briscoe.

The 52 points of success allow him to regain first place in the championship, four races from the end of the season, by winning ahead of Ryan Briscoe and Dario Franchitti, his two closest rivals for the final title. Next event on the Infineon raceway on August 23.
