Fernley: “McLaren has a history with Carlin”

How is the project going so far?

McLaren Coming to Indy for the first time in many years (as a full-fledged team, editor's note), we had to acquire the necessary knowledge. We brought a chassis to the McLaren workshops to take care of it. It will be used for most of the program. The test chassis that we will use during our two test sessions is being assembled at Carlin, Florida. We supervise both but seek to maximize our time so that we are ready at the end of March.

Why not partner with a team with more experience like Ed Carpenter or another Chevrolet team?

We have a history with Carlin. This makes our work easier and we have the same way of working. For us this is a very good solution. We needed a crutch to lean on. When you're starting out, there are always pieces of the puzzle that you haven't thought of, you need guidance. With Carlin taking part in the event last year, it gives a good basis to work with.

A larger program in IndyCar, Is it possible ?

Today, all I can think about is the Indy 500. Once that passes, then the board will decide where they want to go.
