Hinchcliffe returns to victory in Iowa

James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) scored a stunning victory, winning at the 0,8-mile Iowa Speedway after completing a comeback race. After starting from 11th place, the Canadian gradually gained places until he was able to overtake the main leader of the event Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) in the final laps.

After not even managing to qualify for the Indy 500 last May, James Hinchcliffe scored his second victory at Iowa Speedway after 2013 and returned to “Victory Lane” for the first time since his success in last year in Long Beach (California), signing his sixth victory in IndyCar.

“The car was a real rocket in the final stints. Newgarden usually dominates from the first to the last round when he wins. That makes this success all the more important.”, commented the winner.

Spencer Pigot (Ed Carpenter Racing) scored his first IndyCar podium by taking second place while competing in the Iowa 300 for the first time.

While the race was neutralized following the spin of Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing), Takuam Sato (RLL Racing) was able to secure a place in the Top 3 even if he could not avoid contact with the American. The 2017 Indy 500 winner preceded Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) who lost two places attempting a late stop under yellow flag with the hope that the race would resume before the checkered flag.

simon pagenaud (Team Penske) finished eighth behind pole sitter Will Power (Team Penske) and Graham Rahal (RLL Racing). His compatriot Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) took 11th place behind Ed Carpenter and Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport) and ahead of Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) who retains control of the Championship.
