Hunter-Reay finds his way to success in Detroit

Starting from tenth position, Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) took advantage of a good strategy to move up the positions and find himself in the exhausts of his teammate Alexander Red in the final laps of Race 2 in Detroit, Michigan. The winner of the 100th edition of the Indy 500 who started on pole then made a mistake by missing braking.

While Ryan Hunter-Reay took his first victory since Pocono (Pennsylvania) in 2015, Alexander Rossi was only able to finish in 12th place after suffering a puncture. This benefits Will Power (Team Penske), second in the race, who regains control of the Championship with a five-point lead over Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), the winner of Race 1, fourth behind his teammate Ed Jones .

Graham Rahal (RLL Racing), winner of the two races last year who was left with a retirement in Race 1, was this time able to complete the Top 5 ahead of Robert Wickens.

The French were once again behind. simon pagenaud (Team Penske) could only finish in tenth place while Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) finished 21st after suffering a puncture on the opening lap and a spin near the end of the race.

The start of Race 2 in Detroit was delayed by several tens of minutes following a safety car accident on the first formation lap.
