Indy 500 – Alonso climbs into the top five in FP3

Fernando Alonso (McLaren-Honda-Andretti) stood out during the third day of testing at the Indy 500 by setting the 4th fastest time with a time of 40 and an average speed of 9961mph, 219,533 tenths from the benchmark of the day carried out by Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing).

The pilots notably had to deal with a strong wind limiting their driving.

“It was complicated, admitted Fernando Alonso. The big fish only made a few turns, but for me all the conditions are good to take. It was about this (yesterday) to learn to drive with a strong wind and learn to adjust the car turn after turn. The team also used these tests to work on the rear axle, the engine... and it was still a productive day. »

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) was closest to Ed Carpenter, half a tenth behind. J.R Hildebrand (ED Carpenter Racing) completed the top three, 4 tenths behind while Conor Daly (A.F Foyt Racing) completed the top five. The French Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) and simon pagenaud (Team Penske) did not take part in the session.

Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) maintains the best time in practice with a lap completed in 39 during the first session.

The teams will complete two more days of testing before competing in Indy 500 qualifying this weekend.
