Indy 500 – Alonso: “Find more speed”

After more than convincing free practice, with several appearances in the top 5, Fernando Alonso continued its momentum yesterday during the first qualifying session for the Indianapolis 500, moving up to seventh position, and thus find themselves in a position to compete in the Fast Nine this Sunday, the session determining the first nine positions on the starting grid.

At the wheel of a very efficient DW12 – Honda from Andretti Autosport, like all the single-seaters lined up by Michael Andretti's structure (Takuma Sato, Alexander Red and Marco Andretti also finished in the top 9), the Spanish driver was at ease yesterday, but admits he can still raise his level.

« I think the day went pretty well, admits the double world champion F1. CThis morning, when the weather got bad, it put a little stress on everyone. We tried to bring everything together. I think everything wasn't perfect in terms of balance, in terms of riding, as I continue to learn about this format. Today's rides provided useful lessons. , my time was better than the first drivers to pass. When I saw Juan Pablo Montoya start his run in second position, I think he found the track pretty bad. I was in the middle, so let's just say I was lucky. Today was all about being in the Fast Nine. We did it but Sunday remains the decisive moment. »
