Brazilian Helio Castroneves set the best time of Tuesday's day of testing for the Indianapolis 500.

Indy 500 – Castroneves increases the tempo ahead of Pagenaud

The drivers increase the pace on the Indianapolis oval. At the end of Tuesday's day of driving on the legendary American track, it is the triple winner of the 500 miles, the Brazilian Helio Castroneves (Team Penske? Chevrolet) which set the best time in 39″558 at 227,514 mph (366,148 km/h).

Castroneves' closest pursuer is his teammate simon pagenaud, the only other driver to have climbed above the 277 mph mark on a lap. The New Zealander Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing? Chevrolet) completes a 100% Chevrolet top three.

The Briton Justin Wilson (Andretti Autosport) is the best placed driver powered by the Honda block in fourth position, 144 thousandths behind the best time of the day. The 2014 winner of the Indy 500, the American Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) ranks 18th just ahead of Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing? Chevrolet).

Note that the Swiss Simona de Silvestro (Andretti Autosport) shortened his performance following a fire who declared himself on his Honda-powered DW12. The former Sauber resident F1 was not injured in the mishap.
