Indy 500 – Ed Carpenter dominates first qualifying

After a delay of several hours due to bad weather conditions, the first qualifying session for the Indianapolis 500, which determined the decisive Fast Nine for pole position tomorrow Sunday, was dominated by Ed carpenter.

The boss-driver of Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet, a great specialist in oval events, was the fastest this Saturday, achieving an average speed over four laps in 230,468 mph (370,902 km / h).

If the single-seaters powered by the Honda block had shown themselves to their advantage in testing, Carpenter made the Chevrolet engine shine, beating Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport – Honda), author of an average of 230,382 mph (370,763 km/h). ) and Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda), third in 230,333 mph (370,685 km/h).

JR Hildebrand (Ed Carpenter Racing) and Alexander Red (Andretti Herta Autosport – Honda), winner of the 2016 edition, follow in the standings ahead of Will Power (Team Penske – Chevrolet), the only representative of Roger Penske's armada in the top 9.

Fernando Alonso (McLaren-Honda Andretti) confirms his excellent tests by rising to seventh position at 230,034 mph (370,203 km/h) and precedes Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing), last driver above the 230 mph mark.

Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) completes the ranking of the nine fastest drivers who will fight for pole tomorrow.
