Indy 500: drivers ready

After a week of free testing on the Indianapolis circuit, the drivers of?IndyCar Series are going to get down to business. This Friday, a final “Practice” is organized in two distinct phases. The rookies will have the track to themselves for two hours, before handing over to the experienced drivers for a four-hour session. On Saturday, a final two-hour free practice session will allow the teams to adjust their cars, before an intense qualifying session, the famous "Pole Day" which will allow the starting grid to be known for the first 24. It is only on Sunday that the grid will be defined for positions ranging from 25 to 33.

This week is Helio Castroneves (Team Penske), three-time winner of the event, who was the fastest. During the second practice session, the Brazilian clocked 39, a time that has not been beaten since. The teams worked a lot on the race settings, not looking for performance. During this legendary event, regularity and the ability to manage your position in traffic will be two important elements.

On Thursday, it was Tony Kanaan (Andretti Autosport) who finished at the top of the standings, having driven in 39??6870, less than half a tenth of Castroneves' best time. Now, there are a few hours of session left for the drivers to prepare for Pole Day, the most important qualifying session of the year. They will then benefit from a break before returning to the track next Friday, for the first free practice sessions of the week of the Indianapolis 500.
